Artworx Gallery host an evening with World-famous Bronze sculptor Tim Cotterill

On Tuesday 15th September 2015 Artworx Gallery will be hosting a fantastic Frogman Evening with special guest bronze sculptor Tim Cotterill, the world-famous Frogman. Collectors can meet the artist and have their purchases engraved by the sculptor himself.

Tim is a British artist who now resides in California and visits the UK once a year to meet with collectors of his art. His work is collected across the world and some of his earlier sculptures have been sold through Sotheby’s. It was recently revealed that around 116 hours of manual labour goes into each of Tim’s beautiful sculptures. Every piece is crafted from high quality bronze which is moulded into shape using the lost wax bronze technique and then a colour patina is applied by hand, making each sculpture unique.

Whilst the gallery has a large permanent display of Tim Cotterill’s work, Artworx Gallery are pleased to announce Artworx Gallery will be revealing a rare sculpture on the Frogman Evening. The sculpture has never been seen before and is set to wow visitors. Tim will be chatting to collectors and personally engraving purchases made on the night. There will even be a chance to win one of Tim’s limited edition sculptures. Artworx Gallery welcomes collectors to RSVP for the event as spaces contact the gallery on 01952 820397 or, or fill in the contact form at the bottom of this article.

To mark this special appearance at Artworx Gallery, sculptor Tim Cotterill has created two limited edition bronze sculptures which he has named Apollo & Aerial.

These stunning sculptures share a matching colour patina featuring shades of blue, green and yellow. The exclusive UK sculptures create an attractive pair or stand alone as charming individual pieces. Artworx Gallery have a limited number of Apollo & Aerial available to purchase. Demand is expected to be high for this duo.

Originally from Leicester, bronze sculptor Tim Cotterill started his working life with a six year engineering apprenticeship, learning how to work with metal. Through this experience Cotterill developed his hunger for creative metalworking. He began creating custom-made motorcycles and trikes and developing his passion for metal sculpture. Cotterill now designs his bronze sculptures from his home in Venice, California.

Cotterill uses the lost wax technique to create his sculptures, a labour-intensive process invented by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. He begins with a conceptual sketch for each sculpture, from this a model is made, using metal as a skeleton and then sculpting clay for the overall refined finish. First a wax replica is made from the original sculpture, which is repeatedly dipped into a solution and dried for several days forming a strong ceramic shell. This shell is heated in the foundry to melt and drain away the inner wax, then molten bronze is poured into its place. The shell is then chipped off and sandblasted to reveal the bronze underneath. The bronze sculptures go through several smoothing and polishing processes before they are ready for the final stages. To achieve the vibrant colours Frogman sculptures are famous for, each one goes through several steps of hand applied colour patina to create the unique depths and richness of appearance. This process is all done by hand and no two sculptures are ever the same. Each sculpture is finally buffed and waxed by hand.
