New Spring Art Collection by Bob Barker

Artworx Gallery are proud to showcase a new collection of signed limited edition canvas on board paintings. With four pieces in the collection, Barker has appealed to collector’s across different interests. The four pieces include: ‘Gravy Boys’, ‘Discombobulated’, ‘If Only A Dream’ and ‘Come Rain or Shine‘.

Bob Barker’s work is widely collected due to its romantic quality, proving there is always hope even in the darkest of days. Barker’s work is centred around an open narrative with a small flash of colour giving a spark of love, nostalgia and optimism.

Barker explains the piece below Gravy Boys – “A bit of spare land, a bat and a ball guarantees a cricket match will start. A familiar setting with even the advertising posters competing; Bovril, Bisto and my old friend Oxo. Hence Gravy Boys but no chips.” – Bob Barker

Yorkshire born artist, Bob Barker has been painting since he received a set of oil paints at the age of 12 as a Christmas gift. Immediately he was captivated by what could be achieved with a brush, paint and a few small squares of hardboard.

As a Yorkshire man born and bred, nostalgia spurs him to paint by looking back to childhood memories with adult eyes. Memories of the mill his mother worked at as a weaver form a big influence in the images he paints now, as does the industrial footprint left in the Yorkshire mill towns. Barker has always maintained that where most people see soot-blackened stone and polluted skies, he sees colour – like wet Sienna cobbles and Prussian blue shadows with burnt umber and cadmium skies. Bob views Yorkshire in the subtle blended hues of his paint box, and through his art, he invites the viewer to do the same.

Bob Barker talks about the below piece Come Rain or Shine – “In formative years this place would have elicited such excitement and generated days and days of wonder. Now the fair and Ferris wheel are almost ghosts of their former selves, just memories and each other left. Nothing else needed.”

Barker gives meaning to the below piece If Only A Dream – “Lost in her own creative imagination she can conjure any world she wishes with a few licks of paint, but somewhere the truth of her feelings emerges as well..” – Bob Barker
