Artworx Gallery meet with Tim Cotterill – The Frogman

It is not very often Tim Cotterill, aka. The Frogman crosses the Atlantic for British shores, but when he does, he makes quite an impact. Tim, originally from Leicester, emigrated over to the United States in the 1980’s where he had already began his sculpting career by creating beautiful bronze frogs. To this day he is still doing what he enjoys, making his beloved frogs, but with so much demand and high profile collectors the whole world is now watching his next move.

I managed to meet up with Tim on his UK gallery tour, where he was looking forward to meeting collectors of his work. It was such a pleasure to meet a world famous artist that was so down to earth and telling jokes, I even managed to get a cheeky photo with the Frogman himself.

What strikes you about his work is the level of detail, care and devotion that goes into making each frog. The stunning colour patina on each sculpture is simply stunning and what makes them really come to life is their charismatic poses which are full of character and attitude.

Whilst Tim Cotterill has a huge selection of collectable frogs, I thought I would share with you two of my favourite frogs. Below is Ember, he is a small yet handsome frog with a beautiful warm colour patina and a cheeky inquisitive look about him. What strikes me most about Ember is his pose, he appears ready for action and intrigued to learn more.

My other most admired Frogman bronze sculpture has to be Prince Charming, he is the only Frogman sculpture to have a textured touch to him. He is a lovable piece that calmly sits in the palm of your hand. His mottled colour patina perfectly compliments his pose of being a comical grumpy old man. I do feel Tim had a great deal of fun creating Prince Charming as he is not a frog to be messed with, but I imagine he has a few tricks up his frogy sleeves.
