Her prints are hand embellished then covered in clear artist resin, this brightens the bold colours on the box canvas with a glossy effect, giving it ultra sexy and glamorous look and feel. It is easy to fall in love with her work, as everything feels so effortless and free from constraint. There is a definite flow to her work and a clear juxtaposition of culture in her work that infuses East and West.

Danielle is a Toronto-based Canadian artist who has been painting for 30 years. Having studied Art Therapy, she worked with people of all ages helping them to achieve personal change through the use and enjoyment of art. Since leaving her work as a therapist, Danielle has dedicated herself to a life of painting, but her understanding of psychology has had a profound influence on her inspirational images.

Danielle’s style is loose and impressionistic, however she has always believed in the importance of each and every brush stroke. In order to gain a greater understanding and technical skill she studied sumi-e, Japanese brush-painting. Her distinctive fusion of eastern and western artistry has led to her works being highly prized by art collectors from both sides of the Pacific.

Danielle O’Connor Akiyama has just been officially named as the UK’s New Artist of the Year 2011. Despite living and working in Canada, Danielle has won a place in the hearts of the nation, witch her extravagant florals and dazzling abstract work. She was thrilled to receive the award and commented; “I have been welcomed with such warmth in the UK that it feels like my second home. I am particularly glad to have received this away as it shows that art lovers in this country have been collecting my work, and I would like to thank both the galleries that have supported me and the individuals who have bought my paintings.”
